Grant funding award

Saffron Walden Museum is very grateful to AIM and The Pilgrim Trust for their support to carry out a Collections Care Audit on our stored natural history collections, including bird taxidermy and pinned insects.

The audit was performed in the summer by Lucie Mascord, an Accredited Conservator with a specialist natural history training, and focused on the storage conditions and methods in the Museum’s natural history store. Lucie’s report made several recommendations including improving lighting and making simple changes to some storage methods. This will make it easier to access the items, and keep them safer during storage and movement around the store.

The report also recommended some bigger pieces of work which we are looking forward to planning and carrying out subject to further funding applications.
