Donate An Object

The museum has built up diverse collections over the past 180 years but we are still actively collecting. We are very grateful to those who donate objects to our collection.

However, the cost of caring for our collections is high and we have limited storage space. For this reason, we are not able to accept everything that is offered to us. We carefully assess each object offered to ensure that it fits in with our collecting policy, that it is in good condition and that it does not duplicate material we already have.

If you would like to offer an object to the collections, please contact the museum before bringing the object in to us. It is helpful if you can email us a photograph of the object too.

Opening Times

Monday – Closed

Tuesday – Open 10am-5pm

Wednesday – Open for schools and pre-booked groups only during term time.

In Essex School Holidays we are open to the public 10am-5pm on Wednesdays

Thursday, Friday & Saturday:  Open 10am – 5pm

Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays: Open 2pm-5pm

(During the winter months we close earlier at 4.30pm November – February)
